Yeah because if you don't press them fast, someone else is going to beat you to it, and once you're in the air then it gets really hard to counterattack. Depending on how your opponent does it, even the smallest gap really can get you an instant K.O. It really sucks to just get punched to death like that. The combos can get pretty long and complicated but the payoff is good.
